AdVisOr Version 1.0 Ever wish you could get advice from your favorite TV or movie character? Now you can, with AdVisOr, the Advanced Visual Oracle. Just select the person you'd like advice from, click 'Ask', and your questions are answered! AdVisOr is PostCardWare. If you enjoy it, please send a weird postcard to: Mike Yacullo 16 RedCliffe Ave, #3B Highland Park, NJ 08904 (or at least send email to mike@planetofthegeeks.com) +-------------------------+ Installation Instructions +-------------------------+ Be sure that when you unzip ADVISOR.ZIP, you use the directory names in the archive. If you're using PKUNZIP, then it's pkunzip -d advisor.zip and if you're using WinZip, make sure you check the box that says "Use Folder Names". If you do not unzip it this way, AdVisOr will *not* work! Screwing around with the directory structure will make AdVisOr mess up and/or crash. +-------------------------------+ Creating your own AdVisOr files +-------------------------------+ OK, you want to get advice from your own favorite person? It's easy. You will need a .BMP of the person, and some files in .WAV format. - The .BMPs AdVisOr uses are 500 x 155. These .BMPs contain *both frames of the animation. The area from (0,0) to (249,154) should be an image of the person with his mouth shut. The area from (250,0) to (499,154) should be an exact copy of this image, but with the mouth open. Open up one of the provided .BMPs to see what I mean. PhotoShop is probably the best tool to accomplish this manipulation. - The .WAVs can be of any length, any sample rate, etc. The only reason I use 8-bit mono samples is to shorten download time. If you name one of your samples GREETING.WAV, this sound will be played when that person is selected. GREETING.WAVs are not required; if there is none, the person will not say anything until you click 'Ask'. - Now just create a subdirectory under your AdVisOr directory, and give it the person's name. (Please note that AdVisOr *does not* support long file names at this time.) Now just drop your .BMP and .WAVs into the subdirectory and start up AdVisOr. That's it! - If you want to remove a person, just delete their whole subdirectory.
